Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses the task by identifying the main trends and providing relevant data comparisons. You successfully highlighted the significant growth in one-person and lone-parent households, while contrasting this with the decline in households with dependent children. The overview is clear and captures the main features of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that you avoid listing every single data point for every year, as this can make the report feel mechanical. Instead, focus on grouping trends and highlighting the most significant shifts or plateaus to provide a more analytical summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by trend. Cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'Moreover', and 'followed by' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical phrasing, such as the repetitive use of 'by the year' and 'constant of'. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is clear throughout the response. To improve, try to vary the sentence structure and transition phrases to make the flow feel more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'visualizes', 'incremented', and 'steep decline' appropriately. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'chnage', 'househlod', and 'singinificantly', which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, the word 'incremented' is slightly misused in this context; 'increased' or 'rose' would be more natural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly, the presence of these errors limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for spelling and ensuring precise word choice will help elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical slips, such as 'one person type of households' (should be 'one-person households') and 'there by growing' (should be 'thereby'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some inconsistencies with spacing around percentages. You have a good grasp of basic structures, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of participial phrases to ensure they are grammatically sound.
