Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped. While you attempt to identify an overall trend, the analysis of the data is extremely limited. You mention 'one person household' and 'family with no children' but fail to provide specific data points or meaningful comparisons between the years 1971 and 2007. The response lacks a clear summary of the main features presented in the table, and the commentary provided is somewhat speculative rather than data-driven. To improve, ensure you report the actual figures and compare the changes across all categories provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is vague, and the body paragraph does not effectively group information. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical or unnatural way, such as 'Nonetheless' and 'therefore', which do not always fit the context of the sentences. The referencing is also unclear; for example, the phrase 'closed-loop system' is confusing and does not accurately describe the data. To improve, focus on using transition signals that logically connect your observations and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus on specific data trends.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and occasionally inaccurate. Phrases like 'alternation in a few household kinds' and 'closed-loop system' are not appropriate for describing statistical data. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle to use precise terminology related to trends (e.g., 'rose up' is informal; 'increased' or 'grew' would be better). There is also a lack of variety in your word choice. To improve, practice using academic vocabulary related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuation', 'significant increase', 'proportion', and 'demographic trends', and ensure you use words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, 'in 1900s' should be 'in the 1900s', and 'a small percentage of one person household was' is grammatically incomplete. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your sentences are complete and grammatically sound before moving on to more complex structures.
