Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all key features of the data and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the decline in households with dependent children and the growth in single-person and lone-parent households. However, the overview paragraph is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors, and some data points are presented in a way that is difficult to follow. For instance, grouping 'one person', 'couple with no children', and 'lone parent' together in the summary is a good attempt at synthesis, but the phrasing 'were noted throughout the period increased' is awkward. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more precise and that the overview clearly distinguishes between the major trends without grammatical interference.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'While', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'the figures steadily decreased over the decades, reaching at 32%'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the list of categories and figures becomes cluttered. Improving the use of cohesive devices to create smoother transitions between sentences would help the progression of your ideas feel more natural and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuated', and 'peaked'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'peaked up' (instead of 'peaked'), 'accounted for largest proportion' (missing 'the'), and 'one person in family' (which is slightly unnatural). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your report. To improve, focus on using more accurate collocations for describing trends and ensure that you use articles and prepositions correctly when referring to statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. Examples include 'a couple with dependent children was accounted for' (incorrect passive voice), 'the figure for non-dependent children was remained stable' (incorrect verb form), and 'reaching at 32%' (unnecessary preposition). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb tenses would significantly improve your accuracy.
