Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the data and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in single-person households and the decline in couples with dependent children. However, the report contains some factual inaccuracies regarding the data points (e.g., stating 2001 twice for couples without children and misinterpreting the 'dependent children' category). To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed precisely from the table. The overview is functional, but could be more integrated to highlight the most significant shifts rather than just listing trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In 1971', 'By contrast', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different household types. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than just a list of statistics.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'variation', 'inclined', 'declined', and 'steadily'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'orderly' (which is misused here) and 'remained same' (which should be 'remained the same'). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points clearly, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and using more precise collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the number of one person'), subject-verb agreement issues ('couples without children was'), and awkward phrasing ('remained same in 2007 orderly'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some spacing issues after commas. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree in number, especially when dealing with percentages and plural nouns.
