The table below shows the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given tabular chart provides information about the changes in different households types in Great Britain between the period of 1971 and 2007. The data has been calibrated into percentile.

Overall, it is crystal clear that the highest amount of changes were taken place in the house of dependent children while zero changes were done by one-family household and by a couple.

At the fleeting glance, it is evident that in 1971, households consisting of couples with dependent children accounted by 52% making them far the largest category. This figure fall steadily to 47% next year, 41% in 1991, 39% in 2001 and finally 35% in 2007. By comparison, couples with non dependent children represented 10% in both 1971 and 1981, rose slightly to 11% in 1991 and decreased to 9% in both 2001 and 2007.

Moving ahead, the remaining households types all experienced upward trends. The proportion of one person household noticed as 6% and grew moderately till 2007 and reached 12% by the end. Similarly, the percentage of a couple with no children started from 19% and ended with 25%. Lone-parent recorded the sharpest rise, recorded as 4% in 1971 and climbed to 12% in 2001 and remained same in 2007.
