Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response effectively addresses the task by identifying and reporting the main features of the data. You have successfully selected key trends, such as the rise in one-person households and the decline in couples with dependent children, and provided relevant comparisons. The overview is clear and captures the significant shifts over the period. All parts of the prompt are covered, and the data is used accurately to support the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed perfectly; for instance, the prompt mentions 2007, but you occasionally refer to 2001, which is not explicitly in the provided table title, though it is a minor point of detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an overview to specific details about household types. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Likewise', 'Regarding', and 'Meanwhile' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information flows smoothly. The structure is coherent, and the relationship between the different household categories is easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'accounted for the largest share', 'representing the most significant decline', and 'fluctuating only slightly' are well-chosen and appropriate for an academic report. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'unchaned' and 'consistantly', which slightly detract from the overall quality. However, these do not impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent accuracy in spelling and consider incorporating more varied synonyms to describe trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. You demonstrate good control over grammar, with the majority of sentences being error-free. There are some minor slips, such as the introductory sentence containing a typo ('n 1971 and 2007and family types'), which affects the fluency of the opening. However, your use of comparative structures and time-based clauses is generally accurate. The punctuation is mostly correct, and the errors present are non-systematic and do not cause difficulty for the reader.
