Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered all categories mentioned in the table and made appropriate comparisons between the household types. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data reporting; for example, you stated that one-person households increased from 6% to 12%, but the data shows a change from 14% to 29%. Additionally, the description of the trends could be more precise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all figures are transcribed accurately from the source material and that you clearly distinguish between the different categories to avoid confusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive structures. The transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be improved to ensure smoother connections between ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within the paragraphs needs more variety to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'significant decrease', 'steadily increasing', and 'reversed phenomena'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'size of householder' instead of 'proportion of households' and 'long parents' instead of 'lone parents'. Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, which limits the precision of your report. To improve, focus on using more accurate terminology for describing statistical trends and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'percentage... were observed'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'increase double' instead of 'doubled'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, particularly ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that articles are used consistently before nouns.
