Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, but there are significant inaccuracies in the interpretation of the figures. For example, stating that 'one-family households and couple contributed 0%' is factually incorrect based on the provided table. Furthermore, the description of the trends is often confusing, such as the claim that dependent children 'sharply declined 47% to 36%'. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to these inaccuracies. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed correctly and that comparisons are logically supported by the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'this figure a moderate rose' and 'this figure significantly rose at 12%' demonstrate a lack of control over referencing and logical flow. While there is a basic attempt at progression, the internal logic within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, making the relationship between ideas difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'household work' instead of 'household types' and 'inclined moderately' instead of 'increased moderately'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, relying on basic verbs like 'showed' or 'reported' repeatedly. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more varied and accurate vocabulary for describing statistical changes, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('dependent children was', 'lone parent was the least household'), incorrect preposition use ('rose at 12%'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'This figure a moderate rose 11%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is required.
