Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While you have identified some key features from the table, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary depth to provide a comprehensive summary. Several categories are omitted, and the comparisons are underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the prompt, group related information logically, and provide a more detailed overview of the trends observed over the 36-year period. The current length prevents a full development of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Moreover', the connections between sentences are often mechanical or unclear. For instance, the transition to the final paragraph is abrupt and does not effectively summarize the main trends. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to describe the data precisely. Phrases like 'increased quantities' and 'ratio were down' are unnatural and imprecise. You rely on basic vocabulary, and there are instances of word-choice errors, such as 'transformed with the passage of time', which does not accurately describe statistical changes. To achieve a higher band, focus on learning specific collocations for describing trends, such as 'witnessed a significant decline' or 'remained relatively stable', and avoid repeating the same sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'dependent children proportions at its peak'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'loan parent type was 4%'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, practice using a mix of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, and pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like articles and pluralization to reduce the frequency of errors.
