Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete and contains factual inaccuracies. For instance, you state that dependent children households decreased from 52% to 14% and then to 36%, which is confusing and inconsistent with the data provided. Furthermore, the overview is missing, and the reporting of figures is often inaccurate or poorly structured. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and double-check your data transcription to ensure accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'in 1971' and 'in 2007'. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, making the text feel like a list of disjointed facts rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple terms like 'raised', 'upgraded', and 'decreased'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'dependent children houses' instead of 'households with dependent children' and 'incresement' (a misspelling of 'increase'). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant rise', or 'a marginal decline', and ensure correct spelling throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'single person household were 6%', and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods in several places. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety to your writing.
