Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the data provided but lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends. It reads more like a list of data points rather than an analytical report. While it mentions the changes across the years, it fails to highlight the most significant shifts, such as the steady decline in households with dependent children or the rise in one-person households. The information is presented chronologically but lacks the synthesis required for a higher band. To improve, you should group data by trends rather than listing every year individually, and provide a clear introductory summary of the overall patterns observed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. The progression of ideas is mechanical, relying heavily on repetitive sentence structures such as 'in the next decade' and 'was about'. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices; the text relies on simple conjunctions like 'and' and 'but' to link clauses. To improve, you should use paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Additionally, incorporate a wider range of linking words and phrases, such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore', to create a more logical flow between your observations.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'about' and 'percent' throughout the text, which restricts the range of your writing. There is little attempt to use precise terminology or synonyms to describe the data. For example, instead of repeating 'was about', you could use 'stood at', 'accounted for', or 'experienced a rise to'. To achieve a higher score, try to vary your vocabulary by using words that describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'witnessed a significant increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response consists almost entirely of simple sentences, which limits the grammatical range. There are frequent errors in sentence construction, such as 'in the given information we come to know that the people in the household by the type of household and family', which is grammatically incomplete. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, for example, 'dependent childrens was'. To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to pluralization and tense consistency when describing historical data.
