Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the table and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the rise in one-person households and the decline in families with dependent children. However, the overview is slightly cluttered with specific data points, which should be reserved for the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure the overview focuses on the most significant trends (e.g., the shift toward smaller households) without including numbers. Additionally, the term 'loan parents' is a misspelling of 'lone parents,' which affects the clarity of the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas,' 'but,' and 'respectively' to link information. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'as I mentioned' at the end, which is unnecessary and informal for an academic report. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by grouping related data more effectively to enhance the flow of comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased,' 'rose,' and 'fell,' and there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'loan parents' instead of 'lone parents' and 'grate britain' instead of 'Great Britain.' While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety in reporting verbs and the spelling errors limit the score. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for change and ensure accurate terminology for demographic groups.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the proportion of household is doubled' (should be 'has doubled') and 'the loan parents are took the all lead' (should be 'lone parents took the lead'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professional tone of the writing.
