Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the increase in one-person households and the decline in couples with dependent children. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. The statement 'which was a huge achievement' is inappropriate for an academic report, as it introduces subjective commentary rather than objective data analysis. Furthermore, some data points are presented in a way that is difficult to follow, and the report lacks a cohesive summary of the overall shift in household structures over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'next' and 'another'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between sentences feels abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing one-person households to couples without children lacks a smooth logical link. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that contributes to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are some awkward phrasings, such as 'first household type that attracts the attention of people', which is not suitable for a formal report. The word choice is often repetitive, and there is a lack of sophisticated terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'increased gradually' is used, but more varied terms like 'witnessed a steady rise' or 'experienced a significant decline' would be better). The tone is occasionally informal, which detracts from the academic nature of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('illustrated' instead of 'illustrates'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('Next details was about'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
