Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends. While you have selected data points to support your description, the reporting is often mechanical, simply listing figures rather than making meaningful comparisons. For instance, you mention the percentages for 'one-family' households but fail to synthesize the overall shift from dependent to non-dependent or no-children households effectively. To improve, focus on identifying the most striking changes—such as the steady decline in families with dependent children versus the rise in lone-parent households—and group these trends logically rather than listing every data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or misused. Phrases like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used to introduce sections that do not necessarily represent contrasting arguments, making the flow feel mechanical. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, 'First one is no children' is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear link to the preceding sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'shows', 'is', and 'provides', which restricts your ability to describe trends precisely. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'alterations in few household categories' (should be 'changes in several') and 'at low rate' (should be 'at a low rate'). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant decline'. The current range is adequate for basic communication but lacks the flexibility required for higher scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of information. There are issues with article usage ('in great Britain', 'at low rate'), subject-verb agreement ('household changes occurs'), and sentence structure ('According to one person households are at low rate'). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as the fragmented sentence starting with 'According to one person...'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
