Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the claim that there is 'no data present regarding one-family households' is incorrect, as these categories are clearly listed in the table. Furthermore, the description of trends is sometimes confusing, such as the statement that households with dependent children 'sharply declined... as comprised by 36%', which misinterprets the data. While the overview identifies the highest and lowest categories, the lack of precision in reporting the figures and the misinterpretation of the table's content prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In addition' and 'Furthermore' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. For example, the transition 'After that, there population sharply declined' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. The progression of ideas is present but lacks the fluidity required for a higher band, as the connection between the data points and the commentary is often weak.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'households filled with one person' instead of 'single-person households' and 'house guest' which is an inappropriate term for the data provided. The student attempts to use some descriptive language like 'inclined' and 'uplift', but these are often used incorrectly in context. The range of vocabulary is just sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility needed for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('there population sharply declined'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors when attempting more complex structures, such as 'the house guest remain stable as accounting by 12%'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. The frequency of errors is high enough to distract the reader, though the main points remain understandable.
