Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main trends and provided data points, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You correctly highlight the decline in families with dependent children and the rise in one-person households, but the comparison between categories could be more integrated. Furthermore, the summary is incomplete due to the length constraint, meaning some data points are not fully explored or synthesized. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and reach the required word count to allow for a full analysis of all data categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Overall,' 'In addition,' and 'Meanwhile' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel disconnected. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of depth in the analysis makes the progression feel somewhat abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that your sentences are linked more fluidly to create a more cohesive narrative throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'fell' repeatedly. While these are accurate, using more varied synonyms would improve the quality of your writing. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'one family dependent children,' which is grammatically awkward. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'witnessed a significant surge,' and ensure you use precise terminology for household types.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'it was fell rapidly' (should be 'it fell rapidly') and 'Couple with dependent children were' (should be 'Couples with dependent children were'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your verb tenses are used consistently when describing past data. Proofreading for basic sentence structure errors will significantly enhance your score.
