Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the task but lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention specific figures, you fail to highlight the most significant changes, such as the rise in one-person households or the decline in couple households. The data selection is somewhat selective, and the conclusion merely repeats information already stated rather than synthesising the main features. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends in the introduction or as a separate paragraph, and ensure all key categories are represented rather than focusing only on dependent children.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'In 1971' is used multiple times). The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you mention 'one person and lone parents were similar' without providing the context of the year or the specific data points. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would help the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'famous' (which is inappropriate for statistical data) and 'dropped'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'It consist people' (should be 'It consists of') and 'residents of the Great Britain are living' (should be 'residents of Great Britain lived'). To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of the message. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('It consist'), incorrect tense usage ('residents... are living' in a historical context), and missing articles ('the Great Britain'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on consistent tense usage when describing past data and ensure correct subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for basic errors like 'depedent' (spelling) and 'by16%' (spacing) is also essential.
