Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered all categories mentioned in the table and made appropriate comparisons across the years. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more effectively rather than listing figures chronologically for each year, which makes the text feel a bit repetitive. Additionally, ensure that your overview clearly highlights the most significant trends, such as the overall decline in households with dependent children and the rise in 'no children' households, rather than just stating the highest and lowest values in 1971.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'while', 'in 1991', and 'respectively', to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the changes in percentages over time. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the data clearly. You use terms like 'drop', 'increase', and 'rise' to describe trends. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'one person house types' instead of 'one-person households' and 'past two decades' which is not entirely accurate in the context of the data provided. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive sentence structures when describing numerical changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('dependent children are the highest', 'lone parent... are the least') and incorrect preposition usage. There are also some punctuation and spelling errors, such as 'CHIDLREN' and 'OBSEVER'. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do limit the score. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and proofreading for basic spelling and agreement errors will help improve your accuracy.
