Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 93 words, it is severely underdeveloped. While you have attempted to identify some main features, such as the trends for couples without children and dependent children, the analysis is incomplete. You have omitted several categories present in the data and failed to provide a comprehensive summary or sufficient comparisons. To improve, you must ensure you cover all categories provided in the prompt and provide a more detailed analysis of the data trends to reach the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into short paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of sufficient content. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and sometimes mechanical way (e.g., 'In 1971', 'however'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure feels fragmented due to the brevity of the text. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph develops a clear, distinct point related to the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'fluctuations', 'percentage', and 'proportion'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'relayed on' (should be 'relied on') and 'it was gradually declined' (should be 'it gradually declined'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'witnessed a downward trend', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'couples how had no children' (should be 'who'), 'the 19%' (incorrect article usage), and 'it was 25 %' (incorrect verb usage). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. There are also punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for these common errors is essential.
