Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the table and makes relevant comparisons. You have successfully identified the trends for the different household types, such as the decline in couples with dependent children and the rise in single-person households. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate; stating that 'lone parent and one person were the only types of households where people represented the lowest percentage' is confusing and does not clearly highlight the most significant trends. To improve, ensure your overview focuses on the most prominent changes or overall patterns rather than listing specific categories. The data points are generally accurate, but the analysis could be more cohesive by grouping categories more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'Subsequently', and 'Initially', to link your points. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the sentence structure regarding percentages is slightly awkward. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal flow within the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the data points more fluidly rather than just listing them sequentially.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'depicts', 'alternations', 'accounting for', and 'significant change'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'alternations' (which should be 'changes' or 'variations') and 'number of percentage' (which is redundant). The phrase 'at starting' is also non-standard; 'at the beginning' or 'initially' would be more appropriate. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, more precise and natural collocations would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'couple with dependent children' should be pluralized ('couples'), and there are issues with article usage and prepositions, such as 'at beginning of the period' (missing 'the') and 'at starting'. Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'their number of percentage increased by 2007, to 12%'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
