Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the trends for one-person households, couples with children, and lone parents. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While the key figures are identified, the comparison between categories is occasionally confusing, such as the reference to 'one person household expenses' at the end, which is not supported by the data provided. The response would benefit from a more analytical approach that groups the trends more effectively rather than listing figures chronologically for each category. The summary of the main trends is present but could be more clearly articulated in an introductory or concluding overview.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between sentences is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes awkward or inaccurate, such as 'On the contrast' and 'Begining with the one person contribution'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different household types. The transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is abrupt. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than just listing data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, with several instances of imprecise word choice. For example, 'one person contribution' is not the standard way to describe household data, and 'elicited' or 'plummet percentage' are used incorrectly in this context. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'alone parent' instead of 'lone parent'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning of the task, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'experienced a decline', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the one person contribution'), subject-verb agreement ('those couple have'), and awkward phrasing ('those couple who have dependent children were showing highest percentage'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
