Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the trends for the six categories and highlighted the highest and lowest points. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, you mention that the percentage of one-person households 'almost doubled', which is a good observation, but the overall summary lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data. The conclusion is also a bit weak, as it does not effectively summarise the main trend but rather makes a vague statement about 'preferences'. To reach a higher band, ensure you group the data more logically and provide a clearer overview of the most significant changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'When it comes to', 'Also', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied. For example, the transition between the discussion of the first three categories and the final two is abrupt. Improving the use of referencing and transition signals would help the ideas flow more naturally. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraphs could be better balanced to improve the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the information, such as 'drastic change', 'proportion', and 'categories'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'fall of trend' is not a standard expression; 'downward trend' or 'decline' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'making large proportion' is slightly awkward. You attempt to use some specific terminology, but the range is limited, and there are occasional errors that, while not impeding communication, prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptive terms for data trends would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The given table illustrate' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'people's in Great Britain' (incorrect possessive). You also have issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'rise in 4 categories' instead of 'a rise in the four categories'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and proofreading for minor slips in sentence construction.
