Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the student attempts to identify some trends, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing (e.g., 'one person of the family proportion of 6'). The summary lacks a clear overview of the main trends, and the information is presented in a fragmented manner. Key features are not adequately highlighted or compared, and the lack of sufficient length prevents a full development of the task requirements. To improve, the student must ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and that a clear, coherent summary of the main trends is provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks logical organization and progression. Paragraphing is ineffective, and the use of cohesive devices is either missing or misused (e.g., 'whatever' used as a transition). The sentences are disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data over time. There is no clear structure to the essay, and the lack of cohesive links between the sentences results in a series of isolated statements rather than a cohesive report. Improved use of linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'subsequently' is necessary to connect ideas logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'value' and 'proportion' to describe data. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'parent lone value has down' instead of 'the percentage of lone parents increased'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, such as 'rise' or 'decline'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information clearly, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data being presented.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort the meaning. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many fragments and run-on sentences (e.g., 'which is increase 12 percentage in 2001 and 2007'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there is a notable absence of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect capitalization and sentence boundaries. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the proper use of articles and prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
