Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to provide a clear overview or identify the main trends in the data. Instead of summarizing the significant changes over the 36-year period, the writing lists raw data points in a repetitive manner. The information is presented in a fragmented way, and the lack of a clear introduction or summary makes it difficult to follow the overall progression of the data. Furthermore, the data interpretation is inaccurate; for example, the student refers to 'houses' rather than 'households' or 'millions of households' as indicated by the chart. The response lacks the analytical depth required for an Academic Task 1, as it does not compare the categories effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text feel like a list of isolated observations rather than a coherent report. The use of referencing is weak, and the transition between the years is abrupt. The text does not flow well, and the lack of clear signposting makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the household types over time.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple, inaccurate terminology such as 'houses' instead of 'households' or 'categories'. There is no attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'increased', 'decreased', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. Spelling errors, such as 'chiledern' and 'nomn', further detract from the clarity of the response. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately or professionally, which significantly limits the ability to describe the data effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect sentence structures, and poor punctuation. For example, 'the report is showing that there is 19 houses' is grammatically incorrect. The response consists mostly of simple, poorly constructed sentences with little variety. There is a lack of control over basic grammar, and the frequent errors make the text difficult to read. The absence of complex structures and the persistent errors in basic sentence formation place this in the lower band range.
