Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the score. Because the response is incomplete, it fails to cover all parts of the task. Only one category (dependent children) is discussed, while the other five categories mentioned in the table are ignored. There is no attempt to compare the different household types or provide a comprehensive summary of the data. To improve, you must ensure you describe all categories provided in the prompt and reach the minimum word count to allow for a full development of the main features and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is too short to demonstrate a clear logical progression or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of development makes the overall structure feel fragmented. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical way (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moreover'), and the transition between the overview and the body paragraph is abrupt. To improve, ensure that each category is given its own analysis and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas logically throughout the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'highest number', 'lowest', and 'declined'. There is a lack of precision in describing trends; for example, 'steady declined' is grammatically incorrect and lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary to describe data, such as 'a gradual decrease', 'a significant drop', or 'remained relatively stable'. You also need to avoid repeating the same sentence structures when discussing percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For instance, 'six different type of households' should be 'six different types of households', and 'steady declined' should be 'steadily declined'. The sentence structure is simplistic, and the punctuation is inconsistent, such as the missing spaces after commas in the list of years. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adverbs to modify verbs (e.g., 'steadily declined'). You should also aim to include a mix of simple and complex sentence structures to demonstrate better control.
