Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered all categories presented in the table. However, there are significant inaccuracies in your data interpretation. For instance, you state that one-person households rose by 2% and 3% in 1981 and 1991, but the table shows the values were 11% and 14%. Similarly, your description of the 'couples with children' category suggests a decline of 52% to 47%, which is a 5% drop, not a drop 'by 47%'. These misinterpretations of the data significantly impact the accuracy of your report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'According to the data', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the inaccurate reporting of figures, which makes the logical flow confusing. Additionally, some transitions are used mechanically, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the final sentence mentioning '2001' twice instead of referencing the end of the period in 2007.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'categorized', 'escalating', 'prominently', and 'stagnant'. However, there are frequent errors in word formation and usage, such as 'variation's' (incorrect plural/possessive), 'ratio's' (incorrect plural), and 'inclined' (used incorrectly to mean increased). These errors are noticeable and occasionally detract from the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using vocabulary more accurately and avoiding unnecessary apostrophes in plural nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include subject-verb agreement issues and incorrect preposition usage, such as 'categorized accordingly to' instead of 'categorized according to'. Furthermore, the misuse of percentages (e.g., 'rose by the 2%') indicates a lack of control over numerical expressions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
