The table below shows the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table illustrates the percentage of household types and families in Great Britain from 1971 to 2017.

To begin with, the percentage of household stayed one person was 6% in 1971 which increased gradually till to 12% in 2001 and remained same in 2007. Next, the proportion of households with no children was 19% in 1971 then rise to 20% in 1981 and 23% in 1991 and reached at 25% in 2001 and 2007.

In addition, there was slightly decreased of households percentage with dependent children from 52% 1971 to 36% in 2097. The percentage of households with non- dependent children was stood at 10% in 1971 and 1981 which slightly rose at 11% in 1991 and fell to 9% in last two years. Last, the figure of households with lone parent was 4% in 1971, then gradual rise was noticed from 6% in 1981 to 12% in 2001 and stayed constant in 2007.

Overall, the percentage of households with dependent children was higher whereas lone parent had the lowest figure as compared to others.
