Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While you identify some trends, the interpretation of the categories is often confusing or incorrect, such as the claim that 'one family household and couple are emity' (empty). The description of the data is frequently inaccurate; for example, stating that dependent children were 52% in 1971 is not supported by the provided table. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear overview of the main trends, and the selection of data points is inconsistent. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the figures and focus on comparing the most significant changes over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Afterward' and 'Furthermore', which do not always connect ideas logically. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which household type is being discussed. The sentences are often disjointed, and the lack of clear transitions between the different categories hinders the overall flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'emity' (empty), 'dominent' (dominant), 'buste' (likely meant 'boost' or 'increased'), and 'deline' (declined). These errors occasionally impede communication, as the reader must guess the intended meaning. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends. To reach a higher band, focus on learning specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', or 'a downward trend', and ensure you check your spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Lone parent are less'), incorrect sentence structures, and missing articles. The use of complex sentences is limited and often results in errors, such as 'Lower the percentage of those who have no childern in 1971 they are 6%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic errors like missing verbs or incorrect tense usage is essential.
