Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement that dependent children were 'more than half percentages' is unclear, and the description of trends is inconsistent and difficult to follow. You have attempted to select key data points, but the lack of clarity in your comparisons and the failure to reach the minimum length prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you clearly state the start and end values for each category and use precise terminology to describe the trends observed in the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and mechanical errors. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as the awkward transition 'After two deced they number has least to decreased'. Referencing is often confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. To improve, focus on using clear signposting words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one. The current structure lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader effectively through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'house hold', 'deced' (decades), and 'respectably' (which should be 'respectively'). These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your report. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline'. Additionally, ensure you use technical terms like 'proportion' and 'percentage' correctly in the context of data analysis.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence structure (e.g., 'one person leaving alone had been increased', 'people have no children quadrant which remain unchanged'). The range of structures is limited, and the errors are persistent throughout the response. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will be essential for achieving a higher band score.
