Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to accurately report the main features. There are significant factual errors, such as stating that 'one family household percentage remained zero,' which is not supported by the data. Furthermore, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview of the trends. The comparison between categories is often confusing or inaccurate, such as the claim that 'no children percentage in 1971 was more like 1971 as compared to the percentage one person.' To improve, you must ensure that the data cited matches the provided table exactly and focus on identifying clear trends and significant changes rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks logical organization. The introduction is followed by a very short, poorly structured body paragraph that attempts to cram all the data together. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; transitions like 'However' and 'Moreover' are used, but they do not effectively connect the information in a logical flow. The paragraphing is insufficient, as the entire analysis is essentially one block of text. To improve, organize your response into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and separate paragraphs for specific comparisons, using linking words to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'The given table provides the information' and 'percentage of household types.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'reached on 12 percent' (should be 'reached 12 percent') and 'comes down in the next coming years.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate a higher level of language proficiency. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' 'experienced a significant decline,' or 'accounted for.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the information about the changes in different household categories in England' (the table refers to Great Britain), 'which bis 52 percent' (a typo), and 'the lowest percentage in England of house hold types are lone parent' (subject-verb agreement error). Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic mechanical errors.
