Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting trends such as the rise in one-person and lone-parent households, as well as the decline in families with dependent children. However, the data reporting contains significant inaccuracies and lack of precision. For instance, the text states that one-person households 'raised from 6 1i 1971' (likely meaning 6% in 1971), reaching 11% and remaining at 12%. Furthermore, some comparisons are missing or unclear, and the overall progression lacks the analytical sharpness required for higher bands. The response addresses the task overall, but the confused figures and generalised reporting place it at a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps establish a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific categories. However, the overall organisation is severely compromised by very poor cohesion and referencing. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used very awkwardly, such as 'Also withe the lone parenting housing system' and 'however remain stagnant on last two decade'. The transitions between sentences feel mechanical and disjointed, making the logical progression difficult to follow at times. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. This warrants a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice and spelling errors that impede communication in several places. Examples of errors include 'tend' instead of 'trend', 'continuosly', 'drasticcally', 'remianed', 'falled', and 'adaptation rate'. While the student attempts to use some task-related terms like 'households', 'dependent children', and 'lone parents', the high frequency of lexical and spelling mistakes restricts the range. The lexical control is generally inadequate for a clear, precise description, aligning closely with a Band 4.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There are numerous basic errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the tend varies', 'one person house and lone parents household tends continuosly changed', and 'falled to 9% in last two decades'. The writer attempts some complex structures, but these are almost always faulty and contain severe non-systematic errors that cause strain and confusion for the reader. Simple sentences also contain frequent errors. Given the lack of accurate complex structures and persistent grammatical inaccuracies, a Band 4.0 is appropriate.
