The table provides information about the changes in few household types in Great Britain over the span of 36 years ranging from 1971 to 2001.

Overall, from the data, the percentage of Dependent children and non-dependent children decrease over the period. In contrast, one person, No-children, and lone parent showed increment.

Moreover, the parents did not have children reported 19% in the year 1971 and then with steady increment results to 25% in the year 2007.

However, there was a remarkable declined in the percentage of dependent children with 52% to 36% from the period (1971 to 2007) respectively. Finally, Non-dependent children depicts a minor changes in the percentage from 10% to 9%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student covers all parts of the task well, successfully reporting the main trends and making appropriate comparisons across the 36-year span. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, capturing the overall trajectory of different household types (e.g., the decrease in households with children versus the increase in one-person and lone-parent households). Key data points from the visual information are accurately cited, such as one-person households doubling from 6% to 12% and dependent children decreasing from 52% to 36%. However, the closing date is misstated as 2001 in the introduction rather than 2007. Despite this minor slip, the response addresses the prompt effectively, earning a solid Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is structured into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview, and then supporting body paragraphs detailing specific data trends. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression and contrast, such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', 'To begin with', and 'However'. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, and information flows reasonably well from general trends to specific figures. While referencing and linking are mostly clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical ('Finally, Non-dependent children depicts...'). Overall organisation demonstrates clear progression, meeting the criteria for Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully employing terms such as 'percentage', 'span', 'trajectory', and 'increment'. There are, however, some awkward word choices and lexical slips, such as 'showed increment' instead of 'showed an increase' and 'parents who were Single, their population shows tripled increment'. Spelling is generally accurate, but some phrasing is unnatural or repetitive. While less common lexical items are attempted with some awareness of topic-specific language, inaccuracies in collocation and word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. This performance aligns with Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases (e.g., 'over the span of 36 years ranging from 1971 to 2001'). However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as 'the changes in few household types' (missing article), 'the percentage of Dependent children and non-dependent children decrease' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Non-dependent children depicts' (disagreement between plural subject and singular verb). Punctuation is mostly functional, but the density of grammatical errors in complex constructions pulls the score to Band 6.
