The table below shows the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table shows the percentage of people living in different types of households in Great Britain between 1971 and 2007.

Overall, the percentage of people living with dependent children decreased considerably. In contrast, one-person households, couples without children and lone-parent families generally increased. The largest percentage throughout the period was for families with dependent children.

In 1971, 52% of people lived in households with dependent children. This figure gradually fell to 47% in 1981, 41% in 1991, and 39% in 2001, before reaching 36% in 2007. On the other hand, the percentage of couples without children rose from 19% to 25% between 1971 and 2001, and then remained stable.

The proportion of people living alone also increased. It went up from 6% in 1971 to 12% in 2001, where it stayed in 2007. Similarly, lone-parent households rose from just 4% to 12% over the same period. Finally, households with non-dependent children changed only slightly, increasing from 10% in 1971 to 11% in 1991, before falling to 9% in 2001 and 2007. �
