The table below shows the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

the table shows changes in the percentages of people living in different types of househlds in great britain between 1971 and 2007.

Overall,the proportion of people living alone and in aloneparent household increased while the percentage of people in couples with dependent children decreased significantly.

The figure for couples without children also rose during the period.

In 1971, people living in one person households accounted for 6% of the population this figure increased steadily to 8% in 1981 and 11% in 1991, before reaching 12% in 2001, where it remained in 2007. Similarly, the proportion of lone-parent households rose from only 4% in 1971 to 6% in 1981 and 10% in 1991. It then reached 12% in 2001 and stayed at this level in 2007.

By contrast, households consisting of couples with dependent children experienced a considerable decline. They represented 52% in 1971, but this fell to 47% in 1981 and 41% in 1991. The percentage continued to decrease to 39% in 2001 and 36% in 2007. Meanwhile, couples without children increased from 19% to 25% over the same period.
