The table below shows the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table illustrates the percentages of people living in different types of households in Great Britain between 1971 and 2007.

Overall, households with dependent children accounted for the largest proportion throughout the period, although this figure declined considerably. By contrast, the proportions of one-person and lone-parent households increased, while households consisting of couples without children also became more common.

According to the table, in 1971, households with dependent children represented the largest proportion, at 52%. This figure then fell steadily, reaching 47% in 1981, 41% in 1991 and 39% in 2001, before declining further to 36% in 2007. In contrast, the percentage of households with no children rose consistently from 19% in 1971 to 25% in 2001, where it remained unchanged in 2007.

Further details, the proportion of one-person households increased from 6% in 1971 to 11% in 1991, before reaching 12% in 2001 and remaining at this level in 2007.
