Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the task well, selecting and reporting the main features of the table while making relevant comparisons. An adequate overview is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting key trends such as the decrease in households with dependent children and the rise in lone parent and one-person households. Data points are generally accurate, such as noting that one-person households rose to 12% in 2001 and remained the same in 2007. However, there are minor numerical omissions or slight inaccuracies, such as omitting the unit for '10' in the sentence regarding non-dependent children. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of Task Achievement at a Band 6.5 level, tending towards Band 7 for good selection of data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory statement and an overview paragraph, followed by body paragraphs examining specific household categories. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different sections of the data. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect ideas (e.g., 'Overall', 'In contrast', 'Taking a closer look', 'following this'), though some transitions are slightly mechanical or lack punctuation. Referencing is mostly clear, contributing to a coherent arrangement throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying trends and data comparisons using phrases like 'decreasing trend', 'gradual increase', and 'accounted for largest percentage'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary ('proportion', 'considerably'), but there are noticeable errors in word choice and missing prepositions, such as 'Britain household types' instead of 'British household types' or 'households in Britain', and 'accounted for least proportion'. Spelling is generally correct, and while lexical limitations are apparent, communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure (e.g., 'Households with dependent children represented the highest percentage however, showed a decreasing trend'). However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as missing articles ('accounted for largest percentage', 'comprised 10 in 1971'), run-on sentences, and missing commas before coordinating conjunctions. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
