Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student attempts to cover the main trends in the table, noting increases in one-person and lone-parent households, and a decline in dependent children. However, the response contains several major misinterpretations of the data, such as claiming that 'one-family households and couple did not show any numbers' when these categories clearly contain data in the table. Furthermore, there are awkward phrasing and misread categories (e.g., treating sub-categories incorrectly). The overview is confused by these reading errors. Because of these significant inaccuracies in reporting the visual data, the task achievement is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and confusing statements. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as starting sentences with 'While' or 'on the other hand' in places where they do not function effectively to contrast clauses. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within sentences and between ideas often breaks down, making the text difficult to follow smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of vocabulary with several inappropriate word choices and spelling/form errors. Examples include 'caterories' (categories), 'increase proportion' (increasing proportion), 'higest declined' (highest decline), 'proprotion fee' (proportion fell), and 'housholds which were consisted'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but often used inaccurately or ungrammatically. These lexical errors cause some strain for the reader, though the general topic remains discernible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the housholds which were consisted'), incorrect prepositions ('in the Great Britain in 1971 to 2007'), and fragmented clauses. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent (e.g., lowercase 'in 1971'). The high frequency of grammatical errors frequently impedes clarity.
