Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student attempts to summarise the table by mentioning the highest category in 1971 ('Couple who had childrens depending on them') and tracking one-person households. However, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 91 words. Crucially, the response is incomplete and tails off mid-sentence ('By 2007, 12%'), meaning it does not present a fully developed overview or cover all key trends and comparisons across the entire period provided in the table. Because of the severe under-length and incomplete nature of the response, Task Achievement is heavily compromised and falls into the lower bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates some basic organizational logic by starting with an introduction and attempting to sequence the data chronologically. However, paragraphing is absent, as the entire text is written in a single block. Cohesive devices are very basic ('And in the year...', 'By 2007'), and referencing is weak. Most importantly, the text ends abruptly without a conclusion or a completed final sentence, which significantly disrupts the flow and overall progression of ideas. Cohesion is therefore faulty and inadequate for higher band levels.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses basic and repetitive vocabulary suitable for describing simple data trends, such as 'illustrates', 'rate', and 'increased over the years'. There are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'childrens' instead of 'children' and 'following' instead of 'followed'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for communicating the simplest points, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Couple who had childrens depending on them had the highest rate...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'Couple who had childrens', 'following by couple with no child', and 'couple with no child and couple who had non-dependent children'. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, finishing with a fragment ('By 2007, 12%'). While some basic structures are controlled, the errors and incomplete nature cause difficulty and impede communication.
