Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task and fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 103 words. While the candidate attempts to summarise the main trends, the selection of data is incomplete and contains inaccuracies. For instance, 'one childeren' is a misinterpretation of the data categories, confusing lone parents or dependent children with household types. The overview attempts to highlight general increases and decreases, but the overall development is limited and under-developed due to the lack of a full body of data analysis and the incomplete response length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows some basic organisation with an attempt at an introductory sentence and some transitional phrases such as 'Overall, from the the table we see' and 'to begin with'. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the abrupt ending and lack of complete paragraphs. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, such as repeating 'started with... started to rose', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is not properly managed as the text collapses into single fragmented blocks rather than structured paragraphs for an academic overview and body details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'encreasing' and 'established', but these attempts are marred by frequent spelling and word-choice errors, including 'ine' instead of 'one', 'childeren', 'wheras', 'house hold', 'morever', and 'rose' used as an infinitive after 'to'. These noticeable errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of word formation and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with repetitive patterns such as 'started with... to reach... and then established'. Attempts at more complex clauses or descriptions result in frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalisation ('great britain'), missing articles ('from the table'), and incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('to establishing in 25'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader when attempting to follow the specific data points.
