Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the minimum word requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at just 110 words. While the writer attempts to provide an overview and summarize some general trends—such as identifying lower versus higher percentage categories—the information is presented very broadly without adequate data support or clear comparisons. Key features from the table, such as precise trends for specific household types over the timeline, are largely omitted or underdeveloped. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met, extend the response by thoroughly reporting the main data points, and offer clearer, more detailed comparisons across the given years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates some overall organization with an introductory overview and a second paragraph attempting to group details, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is incomplete, and the text ends mid-sentence. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting a sentence with 'While, the other two' or 'On the other hand the higher categories', which creates choppy transitions and affects readability. Referencing between ideas is not always clear. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to logically sequence ideas, employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices without repetition or mechanical errors, and ensure that paragraphs are fully developed and brought to a complete conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with some noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common phrasing, such as 'lower percentages' and 'higher proportions', but misuses terms, writing 'non dependent children' without a hyphen and constructing awkward phrases like 'scored almost same ranged from 4 to 12%'. Word choice and collocations lack precision. To achieve a higher score, the writer should build a broader vocabulary suited to data description, using precise nouns and verbs (e.g., 'percentages', 'proportions', 'fluctuated', 'accounted for') and pay closer attention to natural word combinations and accurate spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, seen in problematic clauses like 'there are mainly three types which remain on the lower percentages that are one person, non dependent children and lone parent.' Punctuation and articles are frequently mishandled or omitted, and sentence boundaries are compromised by the abrupt ending of the text. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater control, reduce the frequency of basic structural errors, and ensure careful proofreading of verb forms, prepositions, and punctuation.
