PEOPLE IN HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE OF HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table lists the fluctuation in household type in Great Britian from 1971 to 2007.
Overall, it is clear that increase in percentage of lone parent was noted while moderate declined was observed among dependent and non-dependent children (it showed marginally increase in between, and decline after that) in Great Britian from 1971 to 2007. Along with that, one person family showed increase in percentage with passing years but in last 2 years it remained constant.
Begining with one person family it was observed that from 1971 to 1991 the proportion was increased from 6 percent to 11 percent. But in 2001 and 2007 it remained constant at 12 %. Additionally, in one-family households no proportion of a couple was noted. One- family household with no children showed similar trend to one person where increased in percentage was observed in 1971, 1981 and 1991 with percentage 19%, 20% and 24% respectively. later, in 2001 and 2007 the percentage remained same at 25%.
Moving towards dependent children it showed gardual decline from 52% to 36%. 52% were accounted in 1971. Moreover, 47% and 41% in 1981 and 1991 after that, 39 and 36 percent in 2001 and 2007. Non-dependent children showed aconstant number in 1971 and 1981 which increased 1 percent in 1991 and declined gradually to 9 % which remained constant in 2001 and 2007. Contrastly, lone parent showed maginal rise from 4 % to 10% in 1971 to 1991 and at 12% it remained constant in 2001 and 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the table, covering trends from 1971 to 2007 such as the rise in one-person and lone-parent households alongside the decline in households with dependent children. An overview is present at the beginning of the second paragraph. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, and certain details are imprecise or slightly misreported, such as stating that 'no proportion of a couple was noted' under one-family households, which overlooks the sub-categories provided. The selection of data is generally relevant, but the lack of precise handling of some sub-categories places this response firmly at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents an overall coherent arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. Paragraphing is used to separate different household types, though the transitions between ideas can feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in phrasing, such as 'Moving towards' and 'Begining with'. Referencing is generally functional, but cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, leading to occasional awkwardness in the flow of information. The logical progression is clear overall, but smoother linking and more varied cohesive devices would be needed to reach the next level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main trends and data points with terms like 'fluctuation', 'proportion', 'gradual decline', and 'constant'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, but this is accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'Britian' instead of Britain, 'declined' used as a noun ('decline'), 'Begining', and 'maginal' instead of marginal. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of precision and control over less common lexical items, preventing a higher evaluation for this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses and comparative statements. There are several grammar and punctuation errors present throughout the text, including missing articles ('in last 2 years', 'at constant number'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward phrasing such as 'where increased in percentage was observed'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. Control over basic structures is generally good, but frequent minor slips in more complex patterns keep the accuracy level consistent with the assigned band.
