Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by highlighting several changes from the table, such as single-person households, couples, and lone parents. However, the coverage is partial and heavily reliant on listing individual numbers rather than drawing out significant overarching trends or making meaningful comparisons between categories. Note that 17 words were copied directly from the task prompt and are not counted towards the student's output. Some information is imprecise or misreported, such as referring to couples with 'no sons' when the data specifically refers to couples with 'no children'. The overview is underdeveloped, resulting in a minimal and somewhat disjointed response that fails to fully capture the main features of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The response lacks a clear overall progression, relying instead on a series of disconnected, single-sentence paragraphs that fragment the text. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used inadequately, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. There is no logical grouping of data or standard paragraph structure for an academic report, which significantly disrupts the readability and structural organization of the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'time by time'. There are numerous word choice and word form errors, such as using 'differents householder' instead of 'different household types', 'childs' instead of 'children', and 'approch' instead of 'approached'. Spelling and collocation errors are noticeable and sometimes strain the reader's understanding. The range of vocabulary is restricted and fails to demonstrate the precision and flexibility required to discuss statistical data effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, and agreement, such as 'the table below show' instead of 'shows', and 'the lone parents increasing time by time' missing a main verb. Punctuation is weak, with sentences starting with lowercase letters and lacking proper period placement. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and distort the grammatical integrity of the response.
