Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting several figures from the table, such as the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12% and the drop in dependent children from 52% to 36%. However, the overview is missing, and the data selection lacks a clear organising strategy. Several key features are omitted, and the information is presented in a fragmented manner without a fully developed summary or adequate comparisons across all categories. Furthermore, some of the data references are imprecise or poorly framed, meaning the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay lacks clear overall progression, and the logical structure is severely hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of cohesive devices. The response begins with a run-on opening sentence that attempts to serve as an introduction without proper formatting. Sentences within the body paragraphs are awkwardly linked, using repetitive or unnatural transitions such as 'while on the other hand' and 'while as the'. Paragraphing is inadequate, as the text fails to group related trends cohesively, making the overall arrangement difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate word choice, awkward collocations, and non-standard phrasing, such as 'drastically defined higher', 'deducted' instead of decreased, and 'aim higher performance'. While communication is not entirely blocked, these noticeable lexical errors and awkward expressions restrict the response to a lower band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple or awkwardly constructed complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the dependent children... has caused', 'the lone parent were'), missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty tense usage. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and run-on clauses that join unrelated statements. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede the flow of meaning.
