Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially and mistakes the visual data source, referring to a bar chart rather than a table. While the writer attempts to report key features and makes some valid comparisons, such as noting that lone parent households increased from 4% to 12% and that households with dependent children declined from 52% to 36%, several inaccuracies occur. Notably, the writer incorrectly claims that 'one family households and couples data has not been shown', which ignores clear data provided in the table. Furthermore, there is confusion regarding the interpretation of household definitions, such as the statement that parents were dependent on children. Overall progression is hindered by these misreadings and a limited selection of well-supported features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation with an attempt at an introduction, body, and conclusion, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is handled awkwardly, resulting in a very dense and lengthy body paragraph that crowds multiple distinct trends together. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'First of all,' and 'No chilfren household in 1971 was 19% and increased upto 23% in 1991 and then 25% in 2001 ad 2007 meaning...'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences are frequently faulty, making the flow difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for conveying basic information. The writer attempts some less common terms and comparative structures, but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling occur throughout the text. Examples include misspellings like 'houshold', 'Britian', 'chilfren', 'thier', 'parentss', and 'increaed'. Additionally, awkward phrasing such as 'peoples residing in the great britian starting living without thier childrens' demonstrates a restricted lexical range and causes some difficulty for the reader, preventing a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic coordinate clauses and run-on sentences joined by conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, plagued by missing prepositions, articles, and punctuation errors. Examples of structural issues include 'the peoples residing in households by the type of houshold' and 'the percentage went upside down through out the years dependent childrens percentage decreased'. Frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding pluralisation, possessives, and run-on punctuation, cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
