Student answer (Band 5.0)
This table indicates the change in some household types in Great Britain between 1971 to 2007. Overall, the dependent children are on the heigher side between the years. standing at 52 percent in 1971 and manintaining its top position throughout the years at 36 percent in 2007.
The percentage of lone parent and one person are both almost similar. maintaing their lowest position at 4 and 6 in 1971. As the years went by both percentage grew similarly at 6 and 8 in 1981 and respectively both having the same percentage at 12 in 2007. whereas, households with non-dependent children saw a drop in percentage from 10 in 1971 to 9 in 2007.
However, Households having couples with no children and dependent children both had the highest percentage. For dependent children at 52 following that couple with no children at 19 percent in 1971. Ended with both having highest in 2007 at 36 and 25.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad pattern that households with dependent children were the largest category, and you include several relevant figures, such as 52% in 1971 and 36% in 2007. However, the overview is incomplete and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The one-person share rose from 6% to 12%, while lone-parent households rose from 4% to 12%; they did not grow similarly at 6% and 8% in 1981. You also call both dependent-child and no-child couple households the highest in 2007, although their figures were 36% and 25%. The response is 146 words, below the 150-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. Select the main rises and falls accurately and summarise them clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an opening and overview to comparisons, and it attempts to connect information with phrases such as “As the years went by” and “whereas.” However, progression is difficult to follow because some comparisons are repeated or contradictory: dependent-child households are described as the top category, then later grouped with no-child couples as having the highest percentage. The sentence beginning “The percentage of lone parent and one person” also combines two trends without clearly matching each figure to its category. Several sentence fragments, including “maintaining its top position…” and “Ended with both…,” interrupt the flow. Organise the body by clear trend groups and use complete sentences with precise references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “households,” “dependent children,” and “non-dependent children,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or awkward, such as “on the heigher side,” “maintaining their lowest position,” and “both having the same percentage.” These phrases make the data description less natural and, at times, obscure whether you mean a high value, a low starting point, or a later increase. There are also spelling errors, including “heigher” and “manintaining.” Use standard trend language such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “declined,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, for example, “As the years went by both percentage grew similarly…,” but control is inconsistent, and several sentences are incomplete or difficult to parse. “This table indicates the change… between 1971 to 2007” has an incorrect preposition pattern; use “from 1971 to 2007” or “between 1971 and 2007.” The opening overview also shifts into a fragment after a full stop: “standing at 52 percent…” The phrase “both percentage grew” has a number-agreement error, and “Ended with both…” lacks a clear subject. Use complete sentences, check singular and plural forms, and punctuate clauses so that each comparison has a clear grammatical structure.
