Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the table’s topic and mention several relevant categories, including one-person households and dependent children. However, the account only minimally reports the data and does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main changes. For example, you say one-person households were 11% in 2001, when the table shows 12% (11% was in 1991), and the statement that “no children had not work” does not describe the rise from 19% to 25%. The “one-family household” figure is also confused with the couple-with-no-children category. To improve, summarise the major trends accurately: dependent-child households fell, while one-person, childless-couple and lone-parent households generally rose; include selected figures to support these comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an attempted overview, body paragraphs and a conclusion. Some sequencing is also signalled by phrases such as “In the beginning,” “However” and “In conclusion.” Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is vague and several sentences do not connect their ideas clearly. For instance, “Overall, there were maximum household sorts” does not identify a meaningful pattern, while the paragraph about one-person households shifts abruptly to “one-family household.” The contrast introduced by “However” is also unclear. Organise the body around clear trends, and use linking words only where the relationship between the data is explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children,” “decreased” and “percentage,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is basic and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make the data difficult to understand. Examples include “the modify in fewer household kinds,” “household work,” “peak 19%” and “had not work.” These are not suitable collocations for describing a table. Use precise, familiar reporting language rather than forcing unusual phrases: for example, “the proportion of one-person households increased” or “the figure for dependent-child households declined.” Also distinguish the category “couples with no children” from the broader label “one-family households.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few longer sentences and use past-tense forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “the role of one person was began lower level” has an incorrect verb construction, while “2001 was 11%, 12%” lacks a clear subject and gives the figures an unclear relationship. In “this types was decreased,” the demonstrative, noun and verb do not agree, and “its was minimum higher” is also structurally unclear. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with limited accurate complex structure. Practise building clear comparisons with a subject, verb and figure—for example, “The proportion rose from 6% in 1971 to 12% in 2001”—and check agreement, articles and tense.
