Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several genuine patterns: the one-person figure doubled from 6% to 12%, dependent-child households declined, and lone-parent households rose from 4% to 12%. You also note that some figures levelled off by the final years. However, the response only partially reports the table’s main features. The largest category, couples with dependent children, is not described accurately in detail: it fell from 52% to 36%, rather than merely “around 16%” without clear context. The overview also calls the one-person change the maximum, although the dependent-child category had the largest absolute movement. Some statements are unclear or contradictory, such as saying one-person households had “a declining growth.” Select the most important comparisons and state them precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt at a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and a further paragraph of details. The response also uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “while” and “in contrast.” However, progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined in long, loosely connected sentences, and some links do not express the intended relationship clearly. For example, “in contrast in one person has seen a declining growth” conflicts with the earlier claim that this figure doubled. The reference to “7 categories while 2 sectors never register any data” is confusing and does not help organise the comparison. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, clearly grouped comparisons for the figures, with simpler links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “decline,” “peaked” and “fluctuation,” and you attempt to describe change rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “alternation occured with the time,” “maximum percentage changed occured,” and “stopped at 12” are not natural ways to describe table trends. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “maximun,” “perso” and “majoe.” Aim for precise trend language and check spelling: for example, say that a figure “rose to” or “remained at” a value, and describe a decrease as “fell by” or “declined from … to …”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “due to the fact that.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement and punctuation frequently make the relationships between ideas hard to understand. For instance, “The give table depicts” has an incorrect verb form, while “one person has seen a declining growth” does not form a clear grammatical statement. The sentence beginning “while in no dependent children has seen” also lacks a clear subject and has an awkward verb pattern. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, particularly after “Overall.” Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences and use a full stop rather than joining several comparisons into one sentence.
