Student answer (Band 5.5)

Given table illustrate the shift in household types over decades from 1971 to 2007 and by looking at the table we can clearly observe that the households type are mentioned on the left side while on the right we have percentages which shows the shift over the period of time.

In 1971 the percentage for individual household was to be at 6 where it shows a raise in next two decades reaching to 8 and 11 percents respectively, while following by the 2001 and 2007 it remain steady at 12%.

on the other hand the trend for family households used to be at 19% for without childrens and 4 % for alone parents in 1971 where it rose to 20 and 6 percent respectively in 1981 while for the dependent children it dropped from 52% to 47 % from 1971 - 1981,although for non dependent children it remained same.

Moving further,in 1991 the trend for family households with no children and alone parent kept increasing by reaching at 23% and 10% respectively while there is slight increase in non dependent children hitting at 11%.

in addition to it 2001 and 2007 were the times where we did not see any rise or fall in percentages for no children , no dependent children and alone parents staying at 25%,9% and 12 % but overall it raise from the previous decade for no children and alone parents while there is a downfall for non dependent children compared to past decades while for dependent children it droped to 39 and 36 percent respectivelt.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant changes, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12%, the increase in couples without children, and the decline in households with dependent children. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns; it mainly follows the years one by one. Some comparisons are incomplete or unclear: for example, you mention the dependent-children figures for 1971 and 1981, then give 2001 and 2007, but omit the 1991 value of 41%. The statement that there was no rise or fall in 2001 and 2007 is accurate for several categories, but the overall significance of the contrasting trends is not drawn together. A concise overview and more selective, accurate comparisons would make the key features clearer and better developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally understandable sequence, moving from one-person households to family categories and then through later years. Paragraph breaks also help separate some of the information. However, the organisation is largely chronological rather than grouped around the most important trends, so comparisons across the full period are difficult to follow. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand,” “Moving further,” and “in addition to it” are used repeatedly and sometimes do not show a precise relationship between ideas. The final sentence is especially crowded, combining several categories and comparisons. Grouping rising categories together and contrasting them with the declining dependent-children figure would create clearer progression and reduce mechanical linking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “trend,” “remained same,” and “dropped,” which helps communicate the data. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts of the report awkward or unclear. For example, “individual household” is less precise than “one-person households,” while “alone parents” does not accurately name the category “lone parents.” Phrases such as “the trend … kept increasing by reaching at” and “the times where we did not see any rise or fall” are wordy and unnatural for a data summary. Spelling and word-form slips, including “droped” and “respectivelt,” also reduce control. Use precise category labels and concise trend verbs consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “although,” but these longer structures are often faulty or difficult to follow. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “table illustrate” and “it remain steady,” missing or incorrect articles in phrases such as “the households type,” and inconsistent sentence boundaries. The opening sentence is a run-on, and the final sentence joins several ideas without clear punctuation. There are also problems with plural forms and verb forms, as in “childrens” and “it droped.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Build accuracy first with shorter comparison sentences, then combine ideas using correctly punctuated clauses and consistent past-tense reporting.
