Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant trends, including the rise in one-person households, the fall in households with dependent children, and the increase in lone-parent households. Some figures are also reported accurately, such as 52% falling to 36% for dependent children and lone-parent households reaching 12%. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main patterns, and parts of the data are misread or unclear. For example, the one-person figure rose from 6% to 12%, not merely by two percentage points overall, and the statement that the couple-household percentage is “none” is incorrect: the table gives 19–25% for couples with no children. The discussion of non-dependent children is also confusing. Select the strongest overall trends and report comparisons precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs and generally moves from one-person households to family categories and then lone-parent households, so the reader can identify the broad topics. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow. Repeated use of “But” and “However” does not always show a genuine contrast, and phrases such as “increased only 5 and 8 percent” leave the comparison unclear. The second paragraph also shifts between couple households and individual rows without clearly explaining their relationship. Use a brief overview first, then group related trends—for example, rising categories together and declining categories together—and use linking expressions only when they accurately describe the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “household type,” “increased,” and “decreased,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “percentage” and “household” appearing frequently, while spelling errors such as “persentage,” “illustrait,” and “Moreever” make the writing less clear and less controlled. Some expressions are also imprecise: “the main concern” is not an appropriate neutral description of a table trend, and “non-independent children” does not match the table’s category, “non-dependent children.” Aim for accurate labels and a wider set of reporting verbs and trend phrases, such as “accounted for,” “rose steadily,” or “declined gradually.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt longer sentences and use some time references, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between figures difficult to understand. For example, “This Table illustrait that the persentage … in between 1971 to 2007” lacks a correct clause structure, while “This had makes an huge impact” combines incompatible verb forms and has an article error. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, and several clauses are joined with “But” without a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, such as “The figure rose from 6% in 1971 to 12% in 2001,” then add controlled complex forms using “while” or “whereas.”
