Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant categories and report some accurate figures, including couples without children rising from 19% to 25% and lone-parent households reaching 12% in the final years. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the main pattern effectively. The dependent-children figures are reversed: they fell from 52% in 1971 to 36% in 2007, not from 25% to 52%. The single-person category is mentioned without its actual values, and the response gives limited comparison across the table. The required minimum of 150 words is also not met: the response contains 141 words, with nine words copied from the task prompt excluded. Add a clear overview and accurate key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about household categories. Sequencing is partly clear, particularly in the chronological account of lone-parent households. However, progression is weakened by the unclear overview and by transitions such as “Moving ahead,” which does not clearly show how the next category relates to the previous one. Some sentences combine figures without making the comparison easy to follow, and “Respectively” is not used accurately to connect the final values. Organise the body around clear comparisons, use straightforward linking phrases such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile,” and ensure each sentence has an identifiable subject and purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “household types,” “dependent children,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the subject and several trends. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “the differ in household types,” “maximum number of single person,” and “percentum” are not natural or precise for describing a table. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “minumun,” “beggining,” and “constable.” Use standard terms such as “proportion,” “percentage,” and “households,” and choose verbs that accurately describe the data, such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “but,” and the reader can understand some basic comparisons. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “Dependent childrens percentage was decreased” has problems with the noun phrase and verb construction, while “Lone parents has grown” has subject–verb agreement and an unclear subject. The overview sentence, “maximum number of single person were minumun,” is also difficult to interpret because of its sentence structure. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with limited accurate control of complex forms. Practise clear structures such as “The proportion of households with dependent children fell from X to Y.”
